Reflecting on Delft...

The walk back to Delft Centraal was gorgeous with the soft colors of dusk and zero wind resulting in amazing reflections.

Jimmy met me in the city center and we grabbed a chicken kebab.

 

Hashing in Inner Delft

Eventually the trail led us into the city center through Oostpoort (East Gate), Delft’s only remaining medieval gate, dating back to  approximately 1400. 

Came across a few reminders of Delft’s native son, Johannes Vermeer, who painted Girl with a Pearl Earring.

We ran right through the main square, past the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) with its tower built in 1872...

…the restaurants catering to tourists...

…and the city hall from 1618.

Eventually the runners met up with the walkers, who were already enjoying a beer at Bier Fabriek (Beer Factory). Afterwards we attempted one more stop, but it was too full so we carried on back to the start where we circled up outside with crappy beer before finally enjoying a good craft beer. 

 

Hashing in Outer Delft...

While Jimmy was busy fixing Bootjuh, I joined Hague H3 at the brewery De Koperen Kat in Delft at the end of March. Jimmy and I had explored much of the surrounding building before, this angle showed how massive it was.

I was surprised when the runners’ trail led us away from the city center and straight into the countryside, where we saw lambs...

...an intriguing sculpture garden... 

…a giant Delft pottery tulip vase...

…and a cyclist made of recycled metal. 

We ran through Technical University Delft, where we saw this colorful building...

…and cherry blossoms.

This looked like the perfect place for a beer stop, but no such luck.
 

November Hague Hashing...

In early November, Jimmy and I hashed with Hague H3 in Delft, south of the city center, in a lovely nature area. 

Here’s the group gathered at the beer stop.

Afterwards, a few hashers joined us at our new favorite microbrewery: Het Koperen Kat. It was difficult to talk over the very loud heavy metal band that was playing in the small space. 

A few days later I returned to the area for a walk with Terri and Kati.

Two weeks later, we helped hare the Hashgiving Photo Trail since Do Me Moore and Joe Dirt were very busy with the latest addition to their family. 

It was a beautiful fall day...

…although it tipped down hard enough at one point that the runners ducked into doorways to stay dry.

Besides all the great urban art that I posted about when we scouted trail, we also passed this sign in front of a bathroom shop. 

Joe Dirt greeted us at his house with all three of his hash horrors on hand, including little Otto who was only two months old when his crazy parents cooked a COVID-friendly Thanksgiving dinner for 20. 

Emma was thrilled that her parents bought too much aluminum foil, which she played with when not squishing Sanne. Veronica didn’t join us, but babysat the girls two mornings a week for about two months to give Do Me Moore a break. Brett even joined her twice.  
 

Delft After Dark...

After the rain stopped, we finally left The Copper Cat and made our way back across the city to the train station. Along the way we spotted this unusual sculpture...

…some interesting black and white urban art...

…and a colorful mosaic.

Not your usual angle of Delft Centraal, a very cool station. 
 

Cars and More Cars...

Definitely the coolest part of The Cable District was the area for TU Delft students devoted to developing hydrogen electric race cars through Forze Delft...

…and formula race cars through Formula Student Team Delft. TU Delft regularly wins global races for solar cars, so not a surprise that they’re working on lots of other kinds of cars. 

Clearly they aren’t sponsored by one of the major beer companies since they’re drinking beer from Lidl (a discount store like Aldi). 

Wonder where these teams will go when the big redevelopment of this complex is started.

In another area, we came across this unusual way to store old cars.
