More Trail with Glasgow H3...

Much of the trail was off-road.

While it was all virgin territory to me, apparently it was also new territory for many of the old-timers.

Afterwards we went back to the pub, where we enjoyed two-for-one cocktails and pizza. I was glad that Audrey, the GM, told me about Glasgow H3’s annual Burns Night Weekend, which would give us another excuse to head back to Glasgow months later.

The following evening, Opee enjoyed hashing with City H3.
 

Great Trail with Glasgow H3...

After crossing the city, Ashlynn had to go to work and I set off to hash with Glasgow H3, which conveniently started not far from Ashlynn’s flat. My expectations were low after learning that this was the first trail laid by the hare, but the nearly 7K trail was excellent...

…with lots of lovely views.

Enjoyed seeing mosaics when we crossed the river...

...as well as this sculpture of The Beithir, a lightening serpent most often seen during summer evening storms, will eventually be covered by mosaics as well if all goes to plan. 

 

Kinetic Theater in Glasgow...

On June 16, I took the train to Glasgow to spend a few days with Ashlynn. 

She was very excited to take me to Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre, showcasing the creative sculptures of Russian artist Eduard Bersudsky. Each show is approximately 45 minutes long and features a variety of the kinetic artworks set in-motion to a synchronized soundtrack while a guide explains each featured piece. After the fascinating show, we were given some time to revisit our favorite static sculptures.

Last Bits of Glasgow...

Here’s some random architectural shots...

Before spending our last night in town, Jimmy and I said farewell to Ashlynn and transferred to a hotel since her roommate was coming back home. 

We changed into our hash clothes and headed across town. We intentionally avoided taking the bus since they’re so slow. Unfortunately, it turned out that the subway didn’t connect us to the bus we needed nor could we get an Uber to pick us, so we missed the hash. At least we had an interesting conversation with an employee at the subway station and found a place with good beers for dinner.

This subway station was decorated for the 125th anniversary of the subway, Europe’s fourth oldest underground transit system. 
 

More Cool Urban Art...

Below are random walls we saw around the city, but this particular wall was painted for COP26, the 2021 Climate Change Conference hosted in Glasgow. In front of the wall it said: Bow down to the roots of the trees. Bow down to the salt of the Earth. Bow down.

How cute are these murals on opposing walls along a narrow street?

There were a few other walls featuring adorable girls. 

We also spotted several walls with the Ukrainian flag; this wall at a bar was especially nice with the dove representing peace. 

This was actually on the floor of a bar and wasn’t particularly creative, but I can’t resist hash feet. 

 

Museum Visits...

We took advantage of the free entrance to visit two museums during our visit to Glasgow, the first being the Gallery of Modern Art.

The museum only dates back to 1996, but the building is much older being built in 1778 for a tobacco tycoon. 

These were my two favorite pieces: a quilt...

…and a digital print called Photography is dead, long live painting by David Hockney.

Later we went to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, a purpose-built museum that opened in 1901. 

I loved the building, but must admit that I found that the mixed nature of the rooms housing the vast collection seemed quite haphazard.
