Hashing in Utrecht...

On April 10, I hashed under beautiful blue skies with Wageningen H3 in Utrecht, where I saw street art...

…lovely canals...

…and a giant teapot on top of a building.

 

Street Art in Utrecht...

Oops! I missed including this post with the two other posts about hashing in Utrecht.

 Our trail passed by lots of interesting artworks.

At first glance this might look like I peeked inside a church and photographed a woman sitting against a pillar. It was actually an impressive painting on the exterior of a building combining a modern day woman with 17th century men. The bike, however, was real.

That evening we circled up next to Nintje, (known as Miffy outside of Holland)…

…who was painted on the other side as a male professor.

While not stationary art, I couldn’t resist including this little girl who wore her coat backwards. Wonder if she was being creative or just contrary.

 

Utrecht Light Trail...

Opee live laid the trail, but we met up with him a few times when we reached drink stops, of which there were several.

The Ganzenmarkt Tunnel was the perfect spot for a group photo with the runners. In historic times, this dark tunnel was used by horse carts to reach the canal to load and unload freight. 

Slippery and I wore kilts in honor of Burns’ Night. 

It was great that Brett was still in town and could join us.

While not officially part of the Light Trail, this lovely statue on the side of a theater was nicely lit. 

If you look closely, you’ll see that this well-lit living room was occupied by a mannequin, not a human.

The Drift Vaults were especially cool with a very creative rotating light show. 

REBUS, combining art light and puzzles, was created in 1991. It was saved from demolition in 2017 and refurbished in 2021.

The train station looked so futuristic when lit up...

…and so did this piece just outside of the station.

 

Hashing in Utrecht...

At the end of January, Opee laid a FILTH H3 Dark Side of the Moon trail in Utrecht. I went along with him to scout trail and check out the locations of the Utrecht Lights Trail, with over 25 light artworks. Here’s some of the pretty spots we saw along the way.

Spotted in Utrecht...

As Veronica and I walked around Utrecht in search of street art, we also came across some other interesting spots, including this lock... 

…windmill...

…skinny house...

…and barge on the main canal carrying construction trash.

 

And Yet More Street Art...

Otter with Dom Tower was sweet. 

Interesting to learn that the artist first painted a 10-foot (3-meter) tall proposal to his wife on Monicahof and later took three days to paint this 3-D city sign over it. 

This piece on Grietstraat featuring four birds was painted by 15 students 

This piece by a collective of artists was a 23-foot (7-meter) tall reproduction of a painting by Pyke Koch in 1940 of his wife and muse Geertje. 

I couldn’t find any information about these last three pieces, but just liked them.
