Sightseeing in Krakow...

While Jimmy and Ashlynn were heading to Krakow to meet us, Veronica and I did some more sightseeing. We were especially impressed with the interior of St. Mary’s Basilica.

This Gothic brick church was originally built in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 14th. The interior was remodeled again in the 18th century in a Baroque style. It was beautiful!

After lunch we went up to the Wawel Royal Castle. Unfortunately, we were too late to get tickets into the main rooms of the castle, but we were able to go into a special exhibition to see Leonardo di Vinci’s Lady with an Ermine, a rather small but lovely painting.

Later that afternoon, we met up with Jimmy and Ashlynn at the dorm. We had dinner at the party venue next door and then danced for hours.

A Confident Young Lady...

Glad that she remembered to take some photos inside the venue. This shows the sea of red during dinner. That night we stayed in the dorm at Krakow University, the official accommodation for Eurohash.

Scaring the Locals...

Can’t imagine what this bride thought when she passed our group. Wonder if she bought her dress in one of the shops by our apartment?

Clearly her parents had a good sense of humor.

Hashing Thru Historic Krakow...

Like Brussels, the Red Dress Hash in Krakow was a walk instead of a run by insistence of the local police department. We set off in small groups for a walk along the river...

Wawel Royal Castle, dating back to the 14th century, housed the kings of Poland for centuries before becoming an art museum in 1930.

Red Dress Hash in Krakow...

The Red Dress Hash was the following day starting at Stara Zajezdnia, a microbrewery in a historic tram depot built in 1913. The weather was fantastic for hanging out before we set off.

It was nice seeing Inflate A Date, an old San Diego and Carolina Trasher who now lives near Naples.

This “lady” definitely had the coolest boots.

We mostly hung out with Amsterdam hashers, whom I failed to get photos of.

First Time in Poland...

Our family vacation this summer was to Poland, starting in Krakow for Eurohash. Ashlynn wasn’t finished with school in time to do the Red Dress Hash, so Veronica and I flew in early on our own. We spent the first night at Relaks Apartment,which was quite nice and trendy, in the historic city center on a street overrun with bridal shops.

We enjoyed walking around, taking photos and discovering some delicious vegetarian restaurants (prices were surprisingly low which helped to make the restaurants even more impressive).

We also found a cool food truck festival in the old Jewish quarter and had dinner in a café within an old Jewish library.

My Version of a Holiday Letter...

A long time ago, I used to mail out an annual holiday letter. Then for many years, Veronica put together an annual video montage. This year, despite my very mediocre design skills, I managed to put together some collages of highlights of our year by season. You’ll likely recognize the photos from winter and spring, but since my blog is so far behind, much of summer and fall will be a sneak preview of future blog entries. Happy New Year!
