

I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m afraid of heights. Frankly, I’m just afraid of falling. I’m OK up high as long as there’s no way to fall. When we climbed up the stairs of the 249-foot Tower of the Clergymen built in 1763 (the tallest tower in Portugal), I wasn’t afraid.
However, when we stepped onto the landing on the top and I realized that there were Ashlynn-size holes all around the edge, I was terrified. She was completely oblivious of the danger, but you can imagine I never let her out of my sight. The views were beautiful, but none as great as the sight of my daughters heading safely back down the stairs.
