Inspired by Calder...

In early February we headed to the Kunsthal in Rotterdam to visit the special exhibit Calder Now! Alexander Calder was an American artist and pioneer in kinetic art that influenced contemporary art. This exhibit featured his artworks surrounded by works by ten international artists that were inspired by him.
Our favorite by far was Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto’s It Happens When the Body is Anatomy of Time. Like diagonal columns, Lycra sacks filled with cloves, cumin and turmeric hung from the ceiling to the floor. Even through our masks, we were immersed in the smells reminiscent of the spice market in Istanbul.
We were also fascinated by Flaming Tape by Lithuanian artist Zilvinas Kempinas. The fan created a constantly changing installation as the magnetic tape danced along the wall. Jimmy was especially mesmerized.
An architectural installation provided a chance for a selfie.
