There's a saying here in Holland: If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes cuz it'll change (ok, they don't really say "cuz", but you get the gist). After a beautiful spring, our first summer here was filled with weather extremes. July 2006 was the hottest July on record. Luckily we were in Sweden during the week filled with days over 90°. While that's a normal summer temperature in NC, it's scorching in a country without air conditioning. We were relieved the temperatures dropped when we returned, but not so thrilled about the 3+ weeks of constant rain (especially tricky with a broken dryer). August 2006 was the wettest August on record with over 7 inches of rain (keep in mind that's without the help of a tropical storm). This photo was taken from our yard of the only rainbow we've seen here so far. Things finally dried out in September and it went on to be the hottest September on record, which meant gorgeous days around 72°. It's now October and it's swinging back to wet. I'm stubbornly refusing to take out my winter clothes in hopes of one last bit of good weather, but have learned my lesson about leaving the house without an umbrella.
