After their arrival, Sinterklaas and his 250 Zwarte Piets (Black Peters), paraded through the streets of Den Haag. This photo was taken just before the parade started and you can see that the Piets use a variety of methods to get around. The best part is that they pass out pepernotens (small ginger cookies) and oranges. They also have a mischevious side, and if you've been a bad child, rumor has it that a Piet will scoop you up, stuff you in his bag and take you away to Spain. What a pleasant holiday story for the kiddies--too bad more kids don't believe it.
