Thanks to Atlas Obscura, we found some very cool things in Prague that we otherwise would have missed. Idiom, made in 1995 by a Slovakian artist, is a sculpture of hundreds of books stacked into a tower at the Prague Municipal Library.
What is especially trippy about this sculpture is inside this tear-shaped opening, which allows visitors to experience what it would be like to drown in a book well...
…because mirrors at the top and bottom give the illusion of being infinite.
Franz Kafka, one of Prague’s most celebrated literary sons, was thought to be plagued by self-doubt and depression. Made in 2014 by David Cerny, a local Prague artist, Franz Kafka’s Head is a kinetic sculpture 36 feet (11 meters) tall with 42 panels that rotate individually. At least once an hour, the head transforms...
…into a mixed up mess, perhaps reflecting the ever-turning mind of Kafka.
After the success of this sculpture, the artist made a version of his own head, which is on display in Charlotte, North Carolina.
