After breakfast Saturday morning, we loaded up the buses to our trails. Here I am sitting next to Timmay, a prison guard from Florida, who I worked with at the Registration Desk.
Three of the hares were from German kennels and one from the US. You might notice a black blotch over the baby jogger. Whoever posted this photo obviously was more worried about Just Dylan being visible than his parents did.
The first part of the trail included a lot of creek crossings. It was possible to avoid getting wet on the first few crossings, but eventually there was just no avoiding it. Unless you were one of the American Princesses, as one of the hares called the group of six walkers that stopped to remove their shoes at each of the crossings.
There was a fresh spring where we could refill our water bottles.
The descriptions for Saturday’s trails didn’t include approximate lengths, which was very unusual. It said there was some elevation, it was STUNNING, there would be cider instead of beer and it was suitable for runners and fast walkers. This particular hill was definitely more than “some” elevation.
Luckily Start Me Up had Just Dylan at this point because Give It a Blow needed assistance to get the empty baby jogger up that steep hill with lots of loose rocks.
Shockingly, I was in the group of frontrunners and got stuck doing an extra mile due to a fish hook (the first nine hashers had to run back to the back of the runners). Give It a Blow was actually ahead of me, but stopped when Just Dylan started fussing, so I passed him and arrived at the fish hook as number nine. Our drink stop featured shots of Czech liqueurs.
