Stage 1: St. Bees to Ennerdale Bridge
It was a bit daunting to look up at the giant hill of St. Bees Head at the start of the route.Luckily it was easier to climb than it looked, especially with the help of my hiking poles.
My newly healed ankle wasn’t fond of the uneven ground, but I quickly learned to search for the flattest part of the path.
The scenery was stunning with the ocean and cliffs on the left and lush green fields on the right. I was nervous that there would be many spots in which to fall to my death, but the trail was placed far enough from the edge and so well protected by fences or vegetation that I wasn’t scared at all.
