Nightlife in Amsterdam...

Our first night, we were very excited to have a reservation for dinner at the Seafood Bar, our first time inside a restaurant in three months. On the way, we came across a group of people rummaging through a huge stack of clothes. Of course, we couldn’t resist asking what was going on and it turned out that it was leftover stock from Gerritsen, a costume shop founded in 1878 that caters to theater, film and TV. 

We quickly dug in and picked up a bunch of random costume bits (shown here on our laundry line a few days later). 

It wasn’t until the person next to us told us to scatter as they’d spotted a police car, that it dawned on us that in the excitement we had completely forgotten about social distancing. Thankfully we averted getting a possible €395 fine plus a criminal record, which would have clearly risked our immigration visa status. 

After an incredible seafood dinner, we found a table outside at this quaint little bar. 

We walked back past where we had found the costumes. Amazingly, this was all that was left.

The following night we met up with Ashlynn and Bjarne, who had come back to the Netherlands for a visit. It was fun going on our first double date with them. 

Ashlynn was very excited about taking the three of us to RADION, an industrial-chic bar, café and nightclub in an old dental school building. Nightclubs had to reinvent themselves in order to stay within health guidelines, so they offered two seatings for 30 people each for a pizza dinner, which was very tasty, followed by an electronic concert, which was surprisingly enjoyable. 

We sat on a couch to watch the one-hour concert by Instant Fame, a three-piece live band using conventional instruments plus synthesizers with a cool light show.
