Things got crazy as we crossed the dreaded boulders along the Khumba Glacier. I followed Ishor closely to keep my fear level down as we eventually crossed a “new” bridge that had no railings over the rushing meltwaters from the Khumba Icefall that fed the headwaters of the Dudh Kosi River, the river that we had been following since the first day.
It turned out that our training trek to Scafell Pike was excellent training as I hardly had to use my hands at all to get over the boulders. Just like during that trek, I heard Kent in my head: Don’t intellectualize it, just do it!
We continued to climb to our lunch stop at Thukla at 15,150 feet (4,620 meters), arriving before 11 a.m. No was really hungry, but we opted to eat as our next leg was at least three hours long with no food options along the way.
