Communal Living at Old Hall...

While we were at Belgian Nash Hash, Veronica headed to Suffolk in England to volunteer as a WWOOF (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) volunteer for two weeks at Old Hall, a communal living farm which opened in 1974. Their building was formerly a manor house and a convent. As opposed to a commune, where all occupants pool all their resources, communal living occupants share responsibility of the house but don’t pool their finances.

Forty adults and ten children/teens live year-round at Old Hall, and they have space for up to six volunteers. In exchange for room and board, volunteers agree to help at the farm and house for 30 hours per week.

Veronica’s room was small, but cheerful with a great view.

Veronica really loved the entire experience. She was happy to work in the kitchen and loved working with the kids.

She was especially honored to participate in the Easter celebrations and thrilled that the kids decorated an egg for her to find at the Easter egg hunt.

While she didn’t help make cheese, she learned about the process.

Veronica always is on the lookout for cool spots for self-portraits, and this spiral staircase at Old Hall didn’t disappoint.
