The shrine was originally built in 1920. It was destroyed during air raids in World War II and was rebuilt in 1958. It honors Emperor Meiji who was responsible for the emergence of Japan as a modernized nation in the early 20th century.
Our timing was perfect as there was a wedding procession while we were there.
It was fun playing paparazzi, but I hung back with these other tourists because I also didn't want to leave the shade.
