Metro Stations...

I walk up and down an incredible amount of stairs and spend a lot of time underground. Tokyo has a vast metro system with 179 stations serving over 6.5 million riders daily. Roppongi Station is just a five-minute walk from our apartment. This photo was actually taken at a different station to show that some stations have barriers and that the drivers must line up the trains exactly in order for the doors to operate properly.
There are lines on the ground to designate where people should wait. However, sometimes I see folks bunched in the white section allowing exiting passengers to walk around on the green, and other times I see them lined up on the green to allow exiting passengers to walk down the middle.
Here's another variety of barrier doors. Can't help but wonder if some stations warrant having this extra protection because they had problems with jumpers in the past.
Some of the lines offer "women-only" cars during the morning rush hour.
Many of the platforms are incredibly long. And some of the stations themselves are like cities underground. Despite fairly good signage, I have repeatedly gone through check-in points for the wrong line and had to get refunds, headed to the wrong platform, and gone out of the wrong station exit.
