Stage 13: Osmotherley to Claybank Top
This hill was the last big challenge for the day.
As we got closer to the rock face, we could see a large group of rock climbers. We knew that we shouldn’t need ropes for our hike, so we were a bit confused how we would be getting over the 1,306-foot (398-meter) summit.
Turns out our path went around the backside of the hill in order to climb over the rocky outcrop known as the Wainstones.
I took this photo just before I handed the camera over to Jimmy for safekeeping. I wasn’t thrilled about having to scramble over these boulders, but with everyone’s encouragement, it wasn’t too bad.
After 11.1 miles (17.8K), we came to the road leading to Claybank Top. We ran into a couple who were staying at our same lodge and had arranged for a lift, which we had failed to arrange. Luckily the innkeeper was willing to make an extra trip for us. We never did see the town, if there actually was one. Instead we just hung out at the Buck Inn for the evening and enjoyed a chat with the German owner.
Our room was pretty basic, but comfortable...
...but the toilet was a bit scary with strange deer images.
