Exploring Thamel...

We took a nap and then went in search of lunch.
The nearby Rickshaw Café was cute, but the food was bland and unimpressive. Thankfully it was an anomaly rather than the norm as generally the food throughout our trip was pretty good.
While not a dedicated pedestrian zone, we encountered few cars within the busy shopping district near our hotel. Two things quickly stood out: there were Nepalese prayer flags everywhere...
...as well as crazy, jumbled up electrical wires that looked far from safe.

I had read that the electricity supply isn't very stable, but it only went out once for a short time during our visit.
Beyond the obvious stores selling t-shirts, scarves or trekking gear, there were some fascinating stores selling singing bowls...
...and masks and puppets (as well as earrings and keychains).
Although there were quite a lot of colorful rickshaws around, we never rode in one.
